My Story

I'm Laura LaMoreaux, and reading and literacy have shaped my entire career as an educator. I hold an MS.Ed in Reading and Literacy, and over more than 30 years of teaching, I've worked as a credentialed teacher dedicated to science of reading methods. Along the way, I pursued specialized training in IMSE and Wilson Orton-Gillingham, two of the most respected approaches in literacy instruction, so I could better support students who need a more structured, multisensory path to reading.

After 30+ years of hands-on classroom experience, I made the decision to retire from full-time teaching, but I quickly realized I wasn't ready to walk away from the work that has meant so much to me. Teaching isn't just something I did for three decades, it's what I love, and I knew I wanted to keep doing it in a new way. That's what led me to continue working directly with students in reading, writing, and math, bringing the same training and standards I held in the classroom into every session.

At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief: every child deserves the chance to love reading. My training in the science of reading, IMSE, and Orton-Gillingham gives me the tools to meet students exactly where they are, whether they're building foundational phonics skills or working to become stronger, more confident readers. My goal has never just been to help a student get through a lesson or pass a test. It's to help every child I work with build real, lasting skills in reading and learning, the kind that stay with them long after we've finished working together, so they can carry a genuine love of learning with them for life.

Thirty Years of Teaching, Now Serving Families

I'm Laura LaMoreaux, a credentialed teacher with a master's degree in Reading and Literacy and more than 30 years of classroom experience across California schools.

I founded Foundations-Literacy and Learning right here in Palmdale to provide K-8 tutoring and intervention services in reading, writing, and math, available online or in person throughout Lancaster and the greater Antelope Valley. My training includes the Orton-Gillingham and IMSE methods, grounded in the science of reading, and I hold a background check clearance along with membership in the California Teachers Association.

Parents across the Antelope Valley reach out when they want a tutor who brings real classroom credentials and decades of hands-on experience to every session, not just a textbook approach. Whether your child needs help with phonics and fluency, math concepts, or writing structure, I bring the same standards I held throughout my teaching career into every lesson I build.

Why I Started Foundations

What sets my tutoring apart starts with the depth of my background: a master's degree in Reading and Literacy, more than three decades in California classrooms, and specialized training in Orton-Gillingham and IMSE intervention methods that many tutors simply don't have.

I don't rely on generic worksheets or one-size-fits-all programs. Every plan I build for a K-8 student in Palmdale, Lancaster, or the surrounding Antelope Valley is shaped around that specific child's strengths, gaps, and goals, whether we're working through reading comprehension, writing structure, or math fluency. I offer both live online and in-person sessions, so families get the flexibility to choose what fits their schedule without sacrificing the consistency and progress tracking that comes with working directly with a credentialed, background-checked educator.

Parents consistently tell me that what makes the difference isn't just the curriculum, it's having someone with real teaching experience who actually knows how to reach their child.

Every Child, A Confident Reader

My mission is simple: I want every K-8 student I work with to leave each session a little more confident, a little stronger, and a little closer to loving learning. After 30+ years teaching in California classrooms, I saw firsthand how the right support at the right time can change a child's relationship with reading, writing, and math for good.

I started Foundations-Literacy and Learning in Palmdale because I wasn't ready to stop doing the work that has shaped my entire career, and I wanted to keep helping families in Lancaster and across the Antelope Valley directly, without the constraints of a traditional classroom.

My goal isn't just to help a student catch up on a skill or pass a test. It's to build a real foundation in reading and learning that stays with a child well beyond their time with me, whether that means closing a specific gap in math or sparking a genuine interest in books for the first time.
